A delegation of special envoys sent by President Lee Jae Myung met with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Sunday and delivered a personal letter from Lee to Chinese President Xi Jinping.
The delegation, led by former National Assembly Speaker Park Byeong-seug, met with Wang at the Diaoyutai State Guesthouse in Beijing on Sunday.
Welcoming the delegates, Wang said China is willing to work with South Korea to deepen substantive cooperation, improve public sentiment and expand shared interests so that bilateral relations can develop on the right track in a stable and sustainable manner.
Park expressed hope that the two nations will work together to improve bilateral relations, which have been strained over the past few years.
On behalf of President Lee, Park also requested Xi’s presence at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Summit in Gyeongju in October.
The envoys are scheduled to meet Zhao Leji, chairman of the National People’s Congress, Tuesday.
