The city of Busan has launched the Global Maritime Hub Promotion Committee, a large council bringing together more than 60 institutions representing industry, academia, researchers, the financial sector and civil society.
The committee was established to mark the 25th anniversary of the Northeast Asia Maritime Capital Vision and the 150th anniversary of Busan Port, while also leveraging the relocation of the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries to the city.
It will set new agendas for the maritime industry, build policy momentum, and act as a control tower for projects such as Arctic shipping routes.
Sector-specific subcommittees, an executive body and a policy council will lead in-depth discussions and submit proposals to the central government.
City officials said the committee will help shape Busan’s strategy to position itself as a global maritime hub and support related legislation in the National Assembly.
