South Korea has expressed serious concern over the potential for the humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip to worsen, after Israel approved a plan to take control of Gaza City.
In a statement on Sunday, a foreign ministry spokesperson said Seoul has consistently supported a two-state solution to the conflict between Israel and the Palestinians and opposes any measures that undermine its realization.
The spokesperson said Seoul strongly urges all involved parties to do all they can to protect civilians, including declaring an immediate ceasefire, releasing all hostages, guaranteeing humanitarian access and abiding by international law.
On Friday, Israel authorized a military operation to seize Gaza City in the northern part of the Gaza Strip.
The international community has denounced the move, saying it will exacerbate the humanitarian situation and undermine efforts to negotiate a two-state solution.
