A former presidential secretary and a former spy chief have appeared for questioning in a special counsel investigation into government interference in an initial inquiry into the 2023 death of a Marine.
Former presidential defense secretary Lim Ki-hoon arrived at special counsel Lee Myeong-hyeon’s office in southern Seoul at 9:20 a.m. Friday as a witness.
Lim is the person who reported the findings of the initial inquiry into the Marine corporal’s death during a meeting of senior officials on July 31, 2023, where former President Yoon Suk Yeol allegedly flew into a rage after receiving the report.
Cho Tae-yong, a former chief of the National Intelligence Service, appeared for questioning at 9:40 a.m. as a suspect.
Cho, who also attended the meeting, previously denied there was any angry outburst from Yoon, but reversed his position for the first time in two years during a special counsel interrogation last week.
