The South Korean Olympic football team's head coach Kim Ho-kon said Sunday that his side will try to make the quarterfinals at the head of Group A.

Speaking to reporters following the 1-0 win over Mexico, the coach said every effort will be made to defeat Mali in the upcoming game, scheduled for Tuesday.

Mali upset Greece 2-0 and currently leads the four teams in the group, followed by South Korea.

Kim said that a victory over Mali will raise the possibility of the team moving into the semifinals and winning a medal because it will tackle the second-place team from Group B.

That group is made up of tough teams like Paraguay, Italy, Japan and Ghana. South Korea need only draw with the African team to make the quarterfinals.

Even if it loses, South Korea may still make it into the next round depending on the result of the Greece-Mexico game.
