Culture and Tourism Minister Chung Dong-chea has expressed optimism over the possible formation of a single South-North Korean team for the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

Upon arrival at the Athens International Airport Wednesday, Chung said that during the Athens Summer Games, the two Koreas will exchange views on the South's proposal of fielding a unified team for the 2008 Olympiad.

Earlier in February, the two Koreas agreed to cooperate to form a unified team on the sidelines of a conference of the Association of National Olympic Committees held in Athens.

Meanwhile, Chung expressed confidence about the security for South Korean athletes in Athens. The minister said he expects no major problems, as the South Korean Embassy is operating a joint security office in cooperation with the Greek hosts who are trying their best to thwart possible acts of terrorism.

Chung is scheduled to visit the South Korean athletes' Olympic village Thursday and attend the opening ceremony of the Games Friday before heading back home on the weekend.
