Some 5.25 Mln. Vehicles to Swarm Highways on Last Day of Lunar New Year Holiday

Traffic will likely be bumper-to-bumper in highway sections across the nation on the sixth and last day of the Lunar New Year holiday on Thursday.

According to the Korea Expressway Corporation, roughly five-point-25 million vehicles are expected to hit the nation’s roads.

As of 3 p.m. Thursday, estimated travel time from Busan to Seoul was five hours and ten minutes, compared with the usual four-and-a-half hours, while that from the southwestern city of Gwangju to the capital stood at five hours and twenty minutes, as opposed to the usual three hours and 20 mins.

Outbound travel from Seoul to Busan was expected to take four hours and 40 minutes and three-and-a-half hours to Gwangju.

Inbound traffic towards the capital is expected to peak at around 5 to 6 p.m., before easing at around 3 a.m. Friday.

As for outbound traffic from Seoul, congestion peaked at around noon and 1 p.m. and is expected to ease after 11 p.m.
