A public opinion poll released Friday showed that the ruling People Power Party has overtaken the main opposition Democratic Party in approval ratings.

In a survey of one-thousand-one adults nationwide conducted by Gallup Korea from Tuesday to Thursday, 39 percent of respondents viewed the ruling party favorably, while 36 percent showed a positive view of the opposition party.

Compared with the previous week’s survey, the ruling party saw an increase of five percentage points, while the opposition party’s approval rating remained unchanged.

Gallup Korea said that amid the intensified political conflict regarding President Yoon Suk Yeol’s arrest, the repeated messages from Yoon and the ruling party to their core supporters likely contributed to the shift.

The survey had a confidence level of 95 percent, with a margin of error of plus or minus three-point-one percentage points.
