All 179 victims of the Jeju Air passenger plane crash have been identified as of 10 a.m. Wednesday.

Na Won-ho, the head of the Investigation Division at the Jeonnam Provincial Police Agency, said during a briefing for the victims' families at the Muan International Airport that the identities of the five remaining victims had been confirmed.

So far, eleven remains have returned to their families for funeral proceedings.

Most of the victims are still in temporary refrigerated storage at the airport.

On the morning of the New Year's Day, the bereaved families visited the crash site for the first time to honor their loved ones. Mourners continue to pay their respects at the joint memorial set up at the airport where the victims' portraits and memorial tablets are on display.

The authorities said the runway will be closed until January, extending the closure by six more days.
