Most of the people on board a Jeju Air plane that crashed at Muan International Airport are presumed dead.

Fire authorities in South Jeolla Province said in a briefing on Sunday that most of the 181 people aboard the ill-fated flight 7C 2216 are presumed dead, while two were rescued from the tail section of the plane.

Firefighters confirmed 120 deaths from the accident as of 2:41 p.m.

Officials from the regional fire authorities said passengers were thrown out of the aircraft after it collided with the wall and that their chances of survival were very slim.

The officials said the fuselage was mostly destroyed and it is difficult to identify the dead, adding that the crash appears to have been caused by birds getting caught in the plane’s systems.

The plane, which was carrying 175 passengers and six crew members, departed from Bangkok and crash-landed at 9:05 a.m.
