The interior ministry plans to reinforce safety measures inside subway stations in response to a sharp rise in passengers attending weekend rallies in Seoul's Gwanghwamun area.

The ministry said on Saturday that it will cooperate with local governments, police and fire authorities to bolster crowd monitoring, increase safety personnel, and enforce non-stop passage of subways during crowdedness.

Also, situation management officers will be dispatched to Gwanghwamun and nearby Anguk Stations every weekend starting this Saturday.

Emergency contact systems, such as the public safety-LTE(PS-LTE), will be established for a swift response on site, while real-time urban data will be utilized to supplement monitoring for signs of potential crowdedness.
