The United States said it is prepared to cooperate with the South Korean government under leadership of Acting President Choi Sang-mok, after the country's parliament passed a motion to impeach former Acting President Han Duck-soo.
In an email to KBS with a statement from its spokesperson, the U.S. State Department said it has witnessed South Korea's peaceful fulfillment of procedures stipulated in the nation's Constitution.
Referring to recent remarks by U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken on the matter, the department said the most important thing is that South Korea has demonstrated its democratic resilience, and the U.S. strongly supports the South Korean people in the process.
While also expressing support for the ironclad South Korea-U.S. alliance that has united the two nations and has accomplished so much over the past few years, the department said the U.S. looks forward to working with South Korea to make even more progress.
