The number of births in October compared to the same month last year increased by 13-point-four percent, continuing its upward trend for four straight months.

According to data from Statistics Korea on Thursday, 21-thousand-398 births were reported in October, marking a 13-point-four percent on-year increase. It is the largest increase in 14 years.

Notably, the number of births increased across all regions of the country compared to the previous year.

An official from Statistics Korea attributed the rise to an increase in marriages since 2022, as well as the impact of government policies aimed at boosting the birthrate.

The cumulative number of births as of October stands at 199-thousand-999, up three-thousand-806 from the same period last year, or a 1-point-9 percent increase.
