The government is set to convene a provisional Cabinet meeting to decide whether to request parliament to reconsider a package of six bills unilaterally passed by the opposition, such as the one that would require the government to buy surplus rice.
According to the Prime Minister's Office(PMO), Prime Minister Han Duck-soo, who currently serves as acting president following President Yoon Suk Yeol's impeachment, plans to preside over the Cabinet meeting starting at 10 a.m. Thursday.
The acting president is reportedly leaning toward exercising the right to make the request.
While Han deferred the request review on Tuesday for discussion with the National Assembly, no news of a bipartisan agreement has emerged ahead of the Saturday deadline for the request.
The PMO earlier said it intended to make a decision in consideration of the Constitution, the law, the nation's future, as well as the impact of each of the bills on state finances and the economy.
