A special forces unit reportedly took out about six-thousand live and blank rounds of ammunition when President Yoon Suk Yeol declared martial law early this month.
Rep. Seo Young-kyo from the main opposition Democratic Party made the claim Tuesday, citing data presented by the Army Special Warfare Command.
The lawmaker said the 707th Special Mission Group took out five-thousand-940 rounds of ammunition, including nearly two-thousand blank rounds, when it was deployed to the National Assembly on the night of December 3.
The unit was also found to have taken out 100 taser cartridges.
All the ammunition was reportedly brought back to the unit after martial law ended in the early hours of December 4.
Park An-su, who led the martial law command, earlier told the parliamentary defense committee that former Army Special Warfare Commander Kwak Jong-keun had suggested the use of tasers and blank ammunition when martial law troops were deployed to the National Assembly.
