The nation has reported a new case of lumpy skin disease, a viral disease that affects cattle.

The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs said Monday that a cattle farm in Yeosu, South Jeolla Province, reported a suspected case on Sunday and the affected cattle tested positive for the disease on Monday.

The new case brings the total number for the year to 23.

The ministry sent an initial response team to the farm to prevent the spread of the disease, cordoning off the affected farm and conducting an epidemiological survey.

The ministry also issued a standstill order for personnel and vehicles associated with the farm with 45 cows and will consider lifting the move after a 28-day observation period.
