Passenger train and freighter disruptions are continuing on the third day of a general strike by rail workers on Saturday.

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced that as of 9 a.m., trains were running at 76 percent of normal capacity.

The figures were 77 percent for KTX high-speed trains, 72.6 percent for passenger trains and 81.3 percent for subway trains in the capital region.

Freight trains were running at just 20.6 percent of normal levels.

As of 9 a.m. Saturday, six-thousand-581 out of the 24-thousand-218 rail workers, or 27.2 percent of the total, were participating in the strike.

The rail workers’ union is calling for improved wages, better working conditions and measures to address labor shortages.

During an inspection, Second Vice Transport Minister Baek Won-guk pressed the employees to immediately return to work, emphasizing the burden the strike places on the economy and the public.
