Main opposition Democratic Party(DP) leader Lee Jae-myung said President Yoon Suk Yeol’s impeachment is a matter of time and that he will eventually be ousted even if the relevant motion fails to pass parliament on Saturday.
In an interview with Bloomberg on Thursday The DP Chair conceded it may be difficult to garner enough support from the ruling party to impeach him over his martial law declaration.
Lee said the situation remains in a "state of flux" ahead of a plenary vote likely to be held on Saturday to launch impeachment proceedings against the president.
The impeachment would be approved with support from at least two-thirds of the 300-member Assembly, which means the opposition bloc would require a minimum support of eight votes from the ruling People Power Party(PPP).
The PPP, for its part, has adopted a party platform to oppose the impeachment.
Lee criticized the president for damaging the country's reputation through an abnormal and incomprehensible act.
