Main opposition Democratic Party Chair Lee Jae-myung says he believes President Yoon Suk Yeol will cause inter-Korean strife the minute he concludes that martial law is not effective, as he speculates that Yoon will try imposing martial law again.
Lee made the remarks Wednesday, after Yoon declared martial law the previous night and subsequently lifted it in accordance with a parliamentary resolution.
Speaking at a rally held by his party and five other opposition parties in front of the National Assembly to call for Yoon’s resignation and impeachment, Lee said Yoon does not use the same standards as ordinary people when he makes decisions.
Lee said Yoon will attempt to declare martial law again but that the greater risk is that he could provoke North Korea and disrupt the inter-Korean border, thus bringing about armed conflict.
The opposition party leader stressed the need to fight together with a sense of awareness, saying he believes the president would sacrifice human lives if he declared martial law again and determined that it was not enough to maintain power.
