National Assembly Speaker Woo Won-shik says the National Assembly is the last bastion of democracy in South Korea and the whole nation witnessed that after the parliament’s unanimous rejection of President Yoon Suk Yeol’s martial law order.

In a special address on Wednesday, Woo said the National Assembly will protect the country’s democracy and constitutional order alongside the people.

The speaker also said the Assembly will take all necessary steps to restore stability amid the chaotic situation in the nation.

Woo added that the immediate withdrawal of martial law troops from the National Assembly after it passed its resolution against martial law showed the military has matured.

The speaker then asked the military to steadfastly fulfill its basic duty of upholding the Constitution and protecting the people.
