Prosecutors indicted self-proclaimed power broker Myung Tae-kyun, former ruling People Power Party(PPP) Rep. Kim Young-sun and three others on charges of violating the Political Funds Act.

The Changwon District Prosecutors' Office suspects that Kim paid Myung 80-point-seven million won, or around 58-thousand U.S. dollars, in exchange for helping her secure a PPP nomination in the 2022 by-elections.

Myung and Kim are also accused of receiving 120 million won from each of two people who were seeking the party nomination in the 2022 local elections for providing support.

The state agency also charged Myung with instigation of evidence concealment, suspecting him of ordering his brother-in-law to hide three mobile phones and one USB flash drive in September.

Meanwhile, Myung, who is in pretrial detention, issued a statement through his lawyer, casting doubt over fairness in the prosecution's probe and calling for a special counsel investigation.
