Ryu Seung-min, ex-president of the Korea Table Tennis Association and a former member of the International Olympic Committee Athletes’ Commission, is running for president of the Korean Sport and Olympic Committee.

Yoo announced his candidacy during a press conference Tuesday, saying he will build a “happy sports community” by drawing on his experience as an athlete, a coach and an administrator.

The former Olympic table tennis star proposed several initiatives, including a care system for athletes and coaches.

He also vowed to promote sports in schools, ensure the independence of regional sports councils and sports organizations, build an advanced sports infrastructure and promote “K-sports” globally.

Additionally, he proposed making the committee self-sufficient by creating revenue platforms.
