Opposition lawmakers have taken action in the National Assembly to oust Board of Audit and Inspection(BAI) Chair Choe Jae-hae and three senior prosecutors at the Seoul Central District Prosecutors’ Office.
Impeachment motions for all four were reported to the plenary session on Monday.
The National Assembly is set to vote on the motions during a plenary session Wednesday, given that an impeachment motion must be put to an anonymous vote between 24 and 72 hours after it is reported to a plenary session under the National Assembly Act.
Earlier in the day, the main opposition Democratic Party filed the motion against the BAI chief for refusing to provide documents requested by parliament regarding an audit of the presidential office’s 2022 relocation.
The opposition is seeking to impeach the three prosecutors, including Lee Chang-soo, chief of the Seoul Central District Prosecutors’ Office, over their decision not to indict the first lady after investigating her alleged role in a stock manipulation case.
