The ruling People Power Party(PPP) criticized the main opposition Democratic Party(DP) of a "legislative coup d'etat," after the DP railroaded a budget bill that only reflects reductions for next year.
In a statement on Saturday, PPP chief deputy floor leader Bae June-young said he was astonished by the main opposition's "stand-alone attitude."
Bae also accused the DP of abusing power as the party with absolute majority in seeking impeachment against prosecutors and head of the audit agency, and pushing to reduce the state budget with an apparent intent to bring down the country.
The DP is seeking to pass impeachment motions for three prosecutors who led a probe into first lady Kim Keon-hee's alleged stock manipulation, as well as the head of the Board of Audit and Inspection(BAI) after the agency inspected the 2022 relocation of the presidential office.
Stressing that the impeachment motion against BAI Chair Choe Jae-hae was not discussed during the latest meeting between the two parties' floor leaders, Bae strongly urged Speaker Woo Won-shik to set right the situation.
