Korea Football Association(KFA) President Chung Mong-gyu has decided to run for a fourth consecutive term.

A KFA official said Thursday that Chung will submit a motion on Monday to the Korean Sport and Olympic Committee’s Commission for Fair Play in Sport, seeking its review of his bid for reappointment.

The official said Chung will, at the same time, submit his letter of resignation as president.

The new president’s term starts January 29, which is 50 days from Monday.

To run, Chung needs to tender his resignation 50 days before the start of the new term.

Chung has served as the president of the country’s football governing body since 2013 and ran as the sole candidate in 2016 and 2021.

If he wants to run for a fourth consecutive term, he must pass screening by the Commission for Fair Play in Sport.

A former head coach of the national football team, Huh Jung-moo, previously threw his hat in the ring for the presidency.
