Top Office to Increase Support for Medical Expenses in Premature Births

The presidential office is increasing its support for the medical expenses of premature babies and establishing specialized facilities for the treatment of high-risk mothers and newborns.

You Hye-mi, the senior presidential secretary for low birth rate issues, said Thursday that the cap for medical support for preemies will be increased to 20 million won, or over 14 thousand U.S. dollars, from the current ten million won.

You said the new support plan will make it possible for the parents of the quintuplets born in September to receive up to 20 million won per child.

Also, the government plans to establish two treatment centers dedicated to high-risk mothers and newborns.

Earlier in the day, during a visit to Seoul St. Mary’s Hospital, President Yoon Suk Yeol vowed to bolster support for premature babies.
