The Marine Corps unit on Baengnyeong Island conducted a naval firing drill on Wednesday, using K-9 self-propelled howitzers.

The Marine Corps Headquarters announced that the 6th Marine Brigade under the Northwest Islands Defense Command fired around 200 rounds for approximately 30 minutes starting at 1 p.m.

During the drill, the Marine Corps implemented public safety measures, including issuing navigation warnings, sending safety text messages, broadcasting training announcements, and deploying teams to guide residents for evacuation.

The Northwest Islands Defense Command vowed to continue to improve the Marine Corps’ firepower capabilities and strengthen military preparedness through regular naval firing drills.

Wednesday’s naval firing drill using K-9 self-propelled howitzers was the fourth this year.
