President Yoon Suk Yeol on Tuesday vetoed a special counsel bill mandating an investigation into allegations involving first lady Kim Keon-hee.

The veto comes 12 days after the bill was unilaterally passed by the opposition parties at the National Assembly's plenary session on November 14.

Earlier in the day, the Cabinet requested the parliament to reconsider the special counsel bill.

This marks the third time a related bill has been vetoed by the president, bringing the total number of bills vetoed since taking office to 25.

The latest bill calls for the appointment of a special counsel to investigate the first lady's alleged involvement in a stock manipulation scheme and interference in election nominations through self-proclaimed power broker Myung Tae-kyun.
