Rival camps have issued mixed reactions to main opposition Democratic Party(DP) leader Lee Jae-myung being acquitted of subornation of perjury.

On Monday, the Seoul Central District Court found Lee not guilty of pressuring a witness to give false testimony in an election violation case in February 2019.

Some 50 DP lawmakers who had gathered in front of the court all hailed the verdict while the party legislators who weren’t there posted messages on their social media, applauding the court ruling.

The ruling People Power Party, meanwhile, expressed regret. 

The party’s floor leader, Choo Kyung-ho, who initially was said to be planning a back briefing, revealed in a written statement that he respects the court’s decision while expressing disappointment. 

People Power Party chair Han Dong-hoon said while it is hard to accept, he respects the court’s ruling.
