The main opposition Democratic Party (DP) and civic groups held anti-government rallies in Seoul on Saturday.

In a rally at Gwanghwamun Square in central Seoul, DP floor leader Park Chan-dae repeated calls for President Yoon Suk Yeol to accept a special counsel probe into allegations surrounding first lady Kim Kein-hee.

The DP unilaterally passed a bill calling for a special investigation into allegations involving the first lady last Thursday and President Yoon is expected to veto the bill again.

DP Chairman Lee Jae-myung did not deliver a speech during the protest, which lasted for 30 minutes.

The DP then joined events organized by civic groups.

Conservative groups also held a rally at a nearby location calling for the arrest of the DP chair, but there were no clashes with liberal civic groups.
