President Yoon Suk Yeol authorized the appointment of KBS News 9 anchor Park Jang-beom as the public broadcaster's new president and CEO.

Park is expected to serve his term from December 10 through December 9, 2027.

The appointment comes despite the National Assembly's failure to adopt Park's confirmation hearing report after a three-day process ended on Wednesday.

The president, who made a second request for the report on Thursday, pushed ahead with the appointment in absence of parliamentary consensus.

During the hearing, the opposition accused Park of deliberately playing down the controversy over first lady Kim Keon-hee's acceptance of a luxury bag from a Korean American pastor while interviewing the president in February this year.
