Doctors are asking the government to call a halt to the recruitment of medical school freshmen for the 2025 academic year.

The emergency committee of the Korean Medical Association(KMA) said Friday that unless the government reverses its stance and freezes admissions, the committee will not change its position either.

According to the head of the committee, Park Hyung-wook, suspending admissions for the 2025 academic year is the only way to minimize negative consequences.

Park warned that if the government ignores the demand, medical education will collapse and the aftereffects will last more than ten years.

Amid recent rifts in the medical community, Park vowed that medical residents, students and professors will unite, along with practicing physicians, and “fight together.”
