South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff(JCS) plans to create a multidomain operations headquarters to respond to changes in security conditions. 

The defense ministry issued a notice on Friday indicating that it is reorganizing the JCS for that purpose. 

The military said the aim of the reorganization is to create a multidomain operations center within the strategic headquarters to respond to the expansion of battlefields to space, cyberspace and electromagnetic fields, and to conduct integrated information operations.

The reorganization will be implemented after it is approved at a Cabinet meeting.

If it goes ahead as planned, the strategic planning headquarters will be renamed the strategic headquarters and the military support headquarters will be renamed the military capability headquarters.

Their functions will be adjusted accordingly.
