The Korea Communications Commission(KCC) says the global messaging service Telegram has established a hotline and appointed a youth protection officer in an effort to stop deepfake sex crimes.

The KCC said Tuesday that Telegram shared the information earlier this month.

Previously, the KCC informed Telegram of the prevalence of deepfake sexual exploitation content being distributed through the messaging app and asked Telegram to designate a youth protection officer.

Telegram did so within two days and provided the email address for the hotline.

The KCC plans to collaborate with Telegram to ensure that the officer can effectively perform their duties under the Act on Promotion of Information and Communications Network Utilization and Information Protection.

These include managing and blocking harmful content and developing measures to protect young people from such content.
