Police have handed over to prosecutors the drunk driving case against former President Moon Jae-in’s daughter, who hit a taxi with her car last month.
The Seoul Yongsan Police Station said Tuesday that it referred Moon Dae-hye’s case to the prosecution, recommending a charge of drunk driving in violation of the Road Traffic Act.
Moon Dae-hye crashed into a taxi while changing lanes in front of the Hamilton Hotel in the Itaewon area of Seoul around 2:15 a.m. on October 5, causing minor injuries to the taxi driver.
At the time, Moon Dae-hye’s blood alcohol concentration was found to be zero-point-149 percent, far higher than the zero-point-08 percent threshold for revoking a driver’s license.
She appeared at the police station on October 18 and underwent some four hours of questioning, during which police say she admitted to most of the charges against her.
Initially, police considered recommending the more serious charge of negligence causing injury under the Act on Special Cases concerning the Settlement of Traffic Accidents, but decided against it after the taxi driver did not submit a medical report.
