The Defense Acquisition Program Administration(DAPA) plans to develop semiconductors for use in the country’s weapons systems.

DAPA made the announcement on Tuesday during a defense semiconductor development forum.

The strategy envisions the creation of an ecosystem for a “strong military powered by advanced semiconductors by 2030.”

The goals include securing domestic production capabilities for key defense semiconductors, building a supportive ecosystem and setting up a robust support system.

DAPA has also outlined 12 specific initiatives, including developing general-purpose defense semiconductor chips for a “K-weapons” system, advancing semiconductor-based high-tech weapon systems, fostering specialized companies for each stage of semiconductor production, and creating a dedicated organizational unit.

The administration also seeks to pursue legislation to foster the defense semiconductor sector.
