The South Korean national baseball team failed to advance past the opening round of the WBSC Premier12.

Although the national team, led by manager Ryu Joong-il, did not play on Sunday, Japan and Chinese Taipei both won that day and eliminated South Korea’s chances of advancing.

South Korea currently holds a 2-2 record and could improve that to 3-2 with a win against Australia on Monday.

However, even if Chinese Taipei were to lose to Cuba on Monday and both South Korea and Chinese Taipei ended up with 3-2 records, South Korea would be eliminated due to the head-to-head tiebreaker since it lost the first game to Chinese Taipei.

The South Korean national team, which mainly consists of young players this year, failed to match the country’s previous successes, having won the inaugural Premier12 in 2015 and finished as runner-up in 2019.
