The South Korean military believes the Hwasong-19, the intercontinental ballistic missile(ICBM) that North Korea test-fired on October 31, is a new model that Pyongyang may have developed with technological assistance from Moscow.

In a report disclosed Monday by the office of ruling People Power Party Rep. Yu Yong-weon, the Defense Intelligence Agency believes the Hwasong-19 is a new kind of ICBM, different from the Hwasong-18, due to its maximum altitude and the length of its fuselage.

The intelligence unit of the defense ministry said it has not detected signs of a solid-fuel engine test in North Korea since March, suggesting the Hwasong-19 may have resulted from military cooperation between Russia and the North under the guise of aerospace industry cooperation.
