Voting to elect the 47th president of the United States began at 12 a.m. Tuesday in Dixville Notch, New Hampshire.

The small town in the northeastern part of the state opens its polling station at 12 a.m. every Election Day, making its residents the first to cast their ballots.

Most states open their polling stations between 5 a.m. and 8 a.m. and close between 7 p.m. and 9 p.m.

Nevada, a key battleground state, keeps its polling stations open the latest, closing them at 10 p.m.

Due to the possibility of a tight race and a surge in the number of mail-in ballots, the final election results may take several days to come in.

In 2020, major U.S. media outlets such as the Associated Press officially declared victory for President Joe Biden four days after Election Day.
