South Korea has confirmed its ninth case of African swine fever this year.

The government said Sunday that the latest case occurred in Hwacheon, Gangwon Province, at a farm with about 35-hundred pigs.

The report comes 44 days after the previous one on August 30.

Disease control authorities sent an initial response team and epidemiology experts to the Hwacheon farm, taking quarantine measures to prevent the spread of the disease.

The authorities plan to cull all the pigs at the farm.

The government also issued a 48-hour standstill order effective until 8 a.m. Tuesday for pig farms and related facilities in Hwacheon and five neighboring cities and counties.
