South Korea has confirmed its sixth African swine fever (ASF) case of the year.

The government said on Sunday that the latest case was confirmed in the southeastern city of Yecheon in North Gyeongsang Province at a pig farm raising about 900 pigs.

The confirmation comes after cases were reported in Yeongcheon and Andong in the province.

The disease control authorities sent an initial response team and epidemiology experts to the Yecheon farm, planning to disinfect the farm and nearby roads and cull the pigs as a preventive measure.

The government also issued a 24-hour standstill order effective until 6 a.m. Monday for pig farms and related facilities in Yecheon and six neighboring cities and counties.
