The state forestry agency raised the nation’s landslide alert by a notch to the third-highest "caution" on a four-tier scale.

The Korea Forest Service said on Saturday that the alert was raised as of 2 p.m.

The agency noted there is a high risk of landslides with over 150 millimeters of monsoon rain forecast for the southernmost island of Jeju and the southwestern Jeolla region through Sunday.

While operating an emergency response system for regions deemed vulnerable to landslides, the agency advised the public to pay attention to emergency disaster texts or regional broadcasts, and to promptly evacuate when necessary.
