A songwriter who garnered popularity through TV appearances is reportedly one of five people under investigation by the police in a drug scandal involving actor Lee Sun-kyun.

According to the judicial community and the police on Tuesday, the Incheon Metropolitan Police team investigating the case is looking to possibly file illegal drug use charges against the songwriter in their 30s.

The suspect’s name came up as the police were verifying a tip last month that illegal drugs were being distributed at an entertainment venue in Seoul's Gangnam area.

The songwriter, who had first appeared on an entertainment program in 2009, has previously served prison time for illegal drug use in 2016 and in 2021, and is currently facing the police probe while being detained for methamphetamine use.

Meanwhile, investigators are expected to soon summon Lee to verify charges of violating the narcotics law with hair and urine testing.

The 48-year-old actor is suspected of using marijuana and other illegal drugs at the residence of an employee at the Gangnam establishment since early this year. The employee has been taken into police custody on the weekend.
