Viral infections of lumpy skin disease(LSD) among cattle at a farm in Eumseong, North Chungcheong Province have been confirmed to raise the total number of cases in the country to 14.
According to the agriculture ministry on Monday, infections were confirmed at three other farms in the Gyeonggi city of Gimpo and the South Chungcheong Province towns of Dangjin as well as Seosan, where the first LSD case was detected last Thursday.
Authorities plan to block further transmission of the virus through vaccinations within a ten-kilometer radius of affected farms through the end of October, with additional shots administered to over one-point-two million cattle in the provinces of Gyeonggi, South Chungcheong and Gangwon.
Existing standstill orders in place for the provinces of South Chungcheong, Gyeonggi and the city of Incheon will be extended through 2 p.m. Tuesday, while parts of North Chungcheong Province have been included from 11 a.m. Monday.
LSD is transmitted by blood-feeding insects, including flies and mosquitoes, that does not affect humans and causes fever and skin nodules, with a fatality rate below ten percent.
