Metsu Soccer Deal All But off

Written: 2004-06-04 00:00:00Updated: 0000-00-00 00:00:00

Efforts to recruit Bruno Metsu, former coach of the Senegalese soccer team, to head up the Korean national squad have proved fruitless thus far.

The Korean Football Association (KFA) had reportedly proposed an initial salary offering similar to that of former Korean team coach Guus Hiddink, but the 50-year-old Frenchman apparently took issue with the offered amount.

Hiddink was offered a one million dollar annual salary.

The KFA announced on Friday that if Metsu does not accept its initial proposal, no further ones would be made.

The latest announcement brings an anti-climactic close to a frustrating week of negotiations with the coveted coach, who had been touted as the next leader of the Korean squad.
