Police launched a raid of the home of actor Yoo Ah-in in an investigation into allegations of illegal drug use on Tuesday.

The narcotics unit of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency sent investigators to his home as well as another location.

The 37-year-old actor, whose real name is Uhm Hong-sik, has been under investigation after the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety concluded that his prescription purchases for propofol have been too frequent to be for medical purposes since 2021.

Marijuana, cocaine and ketamine were also detected in samples of his hair and urine through tests conducted by the National Forensic Service.

Propofol, a sleep-inducing drug commonly used in surgeries, is often featured in substance abuse cases involving wealthy elites, entertainers and even medical professionals in South Korea.
