New COVID-19 Cases above 80,000 for Second Day

New COVID-19 cases registered about 87-thousand for a second day on Wednesday amid the winter resurgence of the virus.

The Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency(KDCA) said on Wednesday that 87-thousand-517 infections were reported throughout the previous day, including 56 from overseas, bringing the country's cumulative caseload to over 28-million-859-thousand.

The daily figure marks a slight decrease of 79 from the previous day and a drop of 643 from a week ago, but compared to two weeks ago, the figure rose by some three-thousand.

The number of seriously or critically ill patients is down by five from the previous day to 587, topping 500 for the eleventh consecutive day.

Tuesday added 69 deaths, raising the cumulative toll to 31-thousand-951. The fatality rate stands at zero-point-11 percent.
