New COVID-19 Cases below 100,000

Daily COVID-19 cases registered just under 100-thousand on Tuesday amid a slowdown in the latest pandemic wave.

According to the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency (KDCA), 99-thousand-837 infections were confirmed throughout Monday, including 273 from overseas. The country's cumulative caseload came to about 23 million-706-thousand.

The daily tally is down by 15-thousand from a week ago and down 50-thousand from two weeks ago, clearly indicating a downward trend.

The number of critically ill hospitalized patients dropped by 26 from the previous day to 536, staying above 500 for the 14th consecutive day. 

Monday reported 44 deaths, raising the death toll to 27-thousand-193, with the fatality rate dropping slightly to zero-point-11 percent.

The occupancy rate of ICU beds for COVID-19 patients nationwide stands at 36-point-four percent.
