2.4 Magnitude Earthquake Occurs Near Yeongpyeong Island

An earthquake with a magnitude of two-point-four occurred near Yeongpyeong Island in the country's western waters on Sunday morning.

According to the Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA), the earthquake was reported at 1:54 a.m. about 60 kilometers south-southeast of Yeongpyeong Island, which is a part of Incheon City.

The depth of the epicenter was estimated at 12 kilometers.

The KMA said that the tremor is thought to have caused no damage.

Including the latest tremor, 50 quakes with a magnitude of two or higher have struck the country since the beginning of the year.
