South Korea added over two-thousand COVID-19 cases throughout Saturday amid the continued nationwide spread of the virus.

The Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency (KDCA) said Sunday that two-thousand-86 new infections were confirmed throughout Saturday, raising the country's accumulated caseload to 318-thousand-105.

The daily tally marks the second largest Sunday figure since the outbreak of the pandemic in the country. Amid the continued spike, the government extended the current social distancing measures for two more weeks to October 17.

Of the new infections, two-thousand-58 were local transmissions, while 28 were from overseas.

The greater metro area accounted for 74-point-three percent of local cases, reporting one-thousand-529. Non-capital areas added 529 cases.

Three more deaths have been reported, raising the death toll to two-thousand-507. The fatality rate stands at zero-point-79 percent and the number of critically ill patients rose by ten from the previous day to 346.
